Bodegas Muga is a traditional, family owned producer from Rioja. They make top quality wines, here we are looking at their flagship Bodegas Muga Rioja Reserva 2007.
This is a beautiful polished wine, still a little tight and closed. Meaning with a decent decant or even better a few more years in the cellar, it will open up showing its true class. The Reserva is aged in French and American Oak for 24 months. I found the oak a little intrusive at the moment, but this will settle with some more age.
NOSE: Aromas of red berries, cedar, vanilla, leather and dark cherry. It also shows some mineral characters. Still slightly closed.
PALATE: Gorgeous red and dark berries, cedar, leather, with lovely powdery tannins. Beautiful mineral acidity finishes the wine off. Great length and will definitely improve with some more bottle age.
DRINK: 2013 – 2025
GRAPES: 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, 10% Mazuelo and Graciano
ANOTHER GLASS? Absolutely, this is a top class Rioja. Go on be adventurous…
EAT: BBQ Lamb Roast
